SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NETGEAR®, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTGR - News), a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, announced Strato Medien AG as the latest broadband services provider to offer NETGEAR products to its subscriber base. NETGEAR, already a top brand in European home networks, anticipates this new alliance to further increase its sales within Germany, Europe's largest market, where Strato commands a leadership position.
Said Patrick Lo, NETGEAR's chairman and chief executive officer, "Establishing partnerships with broadband service providers is proving extremely effective for NETGEAR as we move to expand our channels for reaching new home and small-business customers worldwide. We expect our relationship with Strato Medien AG to offer additional benefits to both companies as we roll out new voice and multimedia networking products in the future."
The first step in this new relationship is the bundling of NETGEAR hardware with Stratro's DSL service offerings. The bundled package options include the NETGEAR DG834G Wireless ADSL Firewall Router, the NETGEAR WGR614 Wireless Router, and the NETGEAR WG111 Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter. All of these products are based on the 802.11g wireless technology standard, making them capable of transmitting data at blazing-fast speeds up to 54 Mbps, five times the data throughput speed and twice the range of products using the popular 802.11b standard. Because the 802.11g standard is backwards-compatible with the slower 802.11b, these products will function in both new and existing wireless networks.
"We evaluated different networking products to offer our customers, but NETGEAR was a natural choice," said Rochus Wegener, chairman of Strato AG's supervisory board. "It's important that any networking device we provide to our subscribers meet our own high standards for performance and easy maintenance, as customers will link its performance to Strato's services. With NETGEAR, we can give our customers networking devices that are not only high quality, but attractive and easy to use."
Strato subscribers receive a NETGEAR wireless device for free or at a discounted price, depending upon the service package option selected. For example, a new subscriber that orders Strato DSL with a new T-DSL2000 or T-DSL3000 line will receive a complimentary NETGEAR DG834G Wireless ADSL Firewall Router.
Said Georg Mrkic, ISP Account Manager D/A/CH of NETGEAR, "When two big players in the German network and ISP market decide to move forward shoulder to shoulder, as Strato and NETGEAR are doing, the real winner is the customer, who gets easier access to the newest wireless devices at a cost-effective price."
