NETGEAR ProSafe 48 Port Gigabit Smart Switch Named 'Best Buy' by IT Week Magazine

ProSafe 48 Port Gigabit Smart Switch (GS748T) Receives Praise for Ease-of-Use and Setup, Management, 'Plethora of Options,' and Low Price Point

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NETGEARĀ®, Inc., (Nasdaq: NTGR - News) a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced that its feature-packed ProSafe 48 Port Gigabit Smart Switch (GS748T) has been presented the Best Buy Award by IT Week magazine. Published in the May 2005 issue of IT Week, the ProSafe GS748T was praised for ease-of-use and setup, robust feature set and low price point.

"Network administrators will find this switch easy to configure with a plethora of options," stated the review. "We consider the Netgear ProSafe GS748T 48 Port Gigabit Smart Switch a smart business investment if your company has the need for a switch with the number of ports and the (Gigabit) capacity that this appliance offers."

"We're particularly excited about receiving the IT Week 'Best Buy' award as it validates the benefits that our industry-leading Smart Switch product line delivers to small- and medium-sized businesses," explained Peter Newton, Product Line Manager. "For about the same price as an unmanaged solution, the high-density ProSafe GS748T delivers Gigabit speeds and key switch management features such as VLANs, prioritization and trunking. In addition, we will be making available a free firmware upgrade in June 2005 that will enable all of our Smart Switches to support both Spanning Tree and SNMP v1.0 for remote management with SNMP-based software including the NETGEAR ProSafe Network Management Software (NMS100)."

NETGEAR ProSafe Smart Switches - Key management features

All NETGEAR ProSafe Smart Switches include a host of management features at unmanaged switch prices. To ensure ease-of-installation and configuration, the Smart Wizard Discovery Utility program automatically discovers up to 254 Smart Switches within a network for configuration. An intuitive Web-browser interface makes it easy to optimize the network by providing key switch management features including: performance monitoring, port configuration, VLAN for traffic control, port trunking for increased bandwidth, and Class of Service (CoS) for traffic prioritization. With their price/performance value, NETGEAR ProSafe Smart Switches are ideal both for upgrading unmanaged networks and for affordably extending fully SNMP-capable managed networks.

Ideal in a backbone as an affordable way to connect servers or power users, the 1U rack-mountable ProSafe GS748T features 48 10/100/1000 Mbps ports with automatic speed and full/half-duplex sensing plus Auto Uplink on every port, with each port capable of powering 2000 Mbps of data throughput in full-duplex mode. Four hot-swappable Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) GBIC slots for fiber Gigabit Ethernet modules provide optional fiber connectivity to enable secure, long distance connections between switches.

The ProSafe GS748T, which is available now via leading direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and value-added resellers at a new list price of $1,400 starting on June 1, is backed by a five-year warranty, 24/7 technical support, and offers optional one- three-year Premium Support Switch Service Packs.
